Industry-Specific Office Interior Design: How Niches Impact Interior Design
Commercial interior design has a huge effect on business. It impacts employee productivity, engagement and even safety. This is why designers have to take into account industry specifics before conceptualising a project for their client.
In fact, the effect of the industry is very easy to see in a completed interior design project. Here are a few examples of work we did for companies operating within a number of fields. Let’s take a look at those and discuss the manner in which the industry played a role in the completion of the renovation.
Advertising: Boosting Brainstorming Potential
Advertising companies carry out lots of creative work. This is the main reason why a highly structured office environment isn’t going to work well for such businesses.
The work we did for this Singaporean advertising agency reveals just that fact. Wide open spaces with a touch of elegance and sophistication create the kind of atmosphere that creatives would require to get the job done. At the same time, the office features everything needed to impress clients – a trendy meeting room, comfortable furniture and multimedia capabilities.
In the world of advertising, strictly corporate doesn’t get the job done. The same applies to an overly casual and laidback office. These are the reasons why the SORDC team worked hard to create a hybrid design that features the best of both worlds.
Software Development: Modern Meets Traditional
It’s a well-known fact that software and tech companies are trend setters.
The rule is valid when it comes to office interior design.
Some of the most impressive and unorthodox offices out there belong to tech companies – Google, Amazon, Facebook.
In our example of software company interior design you’ll see a number of innovative solutions, as well. The space-age reception area welcomes visitors and lets them know they’re not entering a traditional old-school office. The same applies to the pod-like design that we embraced for the meeting rooms.
The office also benefits from bright pops of colour, a recreational area and inspirational slogans on the walls.
The tech world is very fast-paced, structured and driven by creativity and innovation and so is the work that professionals within the industry do. Hence, many tech company owners want to create an environment with spaces that inspire good energy, agility, focus, productivity, collaboration and creativity as well as spaces for recharging. Our work brought all these to this software company’s new office space while also keeping a number of traditional elements that are bound to maximise comfort and interactions between employees.
Jewellery Making and Luxury Goods: Embellished Opulence
Some industries give office interior designers the freedom to stray away from the typical framework. Jewellery and luxury goods are two industries that provide opportunities for opulent interior design styles that abandon many of the typical corporate elements.
Here’s one example of an office interior design project we completed for a jewellery brand.
Several elements stand out immediately – the artwork, the colours, the decorative pieces of furniture that are very different from the standard office chairs and tables.
High-end products should be created and sold in a high-end environment. The good news is that sophistication doesn’t have to cost a ton of money. In fact, stylishness cannot be bought, but obsessively curated. It’s often revealed through careful detailing and finishes that work harmoniously to create a polished concept.
We believe that offices can be functional and also highly decorative/opulent. A bright pop of colour like saturated purple, for example, will quickly transform the look.
A few other elements we incorporated in this project include glass and mirror elements for additional sparkle, light and subdued tones that allow the rich purple to stand out and transparent partitions to create the sense of spaciousness.
Video and Gaming: Functional Cool
This is an office/showroom project we completed for a company that specialises in the realm of gaming chair design.
Video games appeal to a very specific demographic. Professionals who operate in the realm also have a particular vision and a style of getting the job done.
Since this project focuses on both the office environment and the product being created by the brand, the gaming chairs are the stars of the show. All of the other design elements are there to play a supportive function.
Exposed ceiling piping gives the design some industrial, cool and modern vibes. There are also platforms with built-in lights for more effortless and impressive chair presentations.
Form, Function and Beauty Need to Work Harmoniously for Office Design to Impress
Office design needs to be reflective of an industry, of a brand, of the dynamics within a specific team. Achieving all of these goals, especially if you have no thorough understanding of corporate office interior design, is going to be impossible.
This is why we suggest partnering up with professionals with specialty in corporate office interior design.
